I’ve talked a lot about teaching children how to cook and letting them get to know their way around a recipe or two and navigate the kitchen.
I’ve talked about the many benefits; you’re teaching a life skill that might otherwise never be learned, your empowering your little darlings and boosting their confidence, you’re giving an understanding of how food ends up on the plate.
You also get THE most spectacular Mother’s Day cake baked and decorated beautifully for you.
You get to see a look of absolute pride and joy in making something so special – all by yourself. And then you get to put your feet up and dig in.
Victoria sandwich with raspberry jam and butter cream, my all time favourite.
Going to get some tips now from Amber on how the heck she got this icing so smooth…

That is pretty impressive, both cake wise and icing wise! Hope you had a lovely day!
I know, I couldn’t believe me eyes, I cried of course! She spent an age in the baking aisle of the supermarket with her own money too, checking it was all veggie. Oh, that’s me off again!
Didn’t they do a fab job?! Let me know what Amber says!! x
I know! I really can’t do cakes like this, they look so cack handed when I attempt them. I will let you know her secret… and thank you

hi Barnes, its Amber I thought i could tell you my secret about using roll out icing
step 1.put a dollop of warm jam or butter cream on the top of the cake
step 2.you need 2 people to lift and drape the icing over the cake
step 3. then just gently rub until icing is smooth and using butter knife cut of excess icing.
