Friday Lush: Wine Relief

Frankly the addition of any wine is generally a relief for me but this wine relief is a little different.

Wine Relief is the boozy arm of Comic Relief, and as today is officially Red Nose Day you could do much worse than to drink some damn fine wines and boost the Comic Relief coffers.

Wine Relief was founded in 1999 by Master of Wine Jancis Robinson and her husband the restaurant critic Nick Lander.  Since its inception the initiative has raised over £4 million.  Pretty impressive, and a tidy tipple to boot.  You can read more about the wine selections for Wine Relief in the press and blogs of very brilliant, bonafide winos Fiona Beckett in the Guardian, Matthew Jukes and The Knackered Mother’s Wine Club .

Wine retailers will be donating at least 10% of the sales of selected wines, that range from Italian Bardolino to  South African Chardonnay and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, to Comic Relief.

You can find these wines in Waitrose, Majestic, Naked Wines, Laithwaites, Oddbins, Virgin Wines, Marks & Spencer and Selfridges.  You can find me, later on, with Comic Relief, Bardolino and a box of tissues for the inevitable clips that make viewing difficult and texting in donations easy.

  • Drinking wine AND contributing to Comic Relief is a genius idea! And thanks for putting me on to The Knackered Mother’s Wine Club too. It’s now on my reading list. Loved her most memorable meal post x

    • It is absolute genius isn’t it Barnes. I had never heard of it until this year, from the KNWC blog. Glad you liked that memorable meal post, I wanted to highlight the blog because it’s so good, and down to earth. x
