5 of the Best Places to Eat Pizza in Leicester

The 5 Best Pizzerias in Leicester

If you know me, or you’ve read my blog before, then you’ll know that I am a pizza aficionado.  Yes, I’m on a healthy eating trip but I said last week that there has to be room for the food that you crave, to deny yourself is surely the slow road to insanity.  Just eat the pizza and be done with it.  Life’s way, way too short not to.

Here are my top five pizzerias in my nearest city Leicester, erm, world renowned for its authentic pizzerias.  What a terrible piece of research this has been…

  1. Raja’s Pizza Bar

Raja might not sound like an authentic Italian name, but this place is no joke when it comes to takeaway goodness.  Their pizzas are hearty and well-endowed with toppings, and they also serve packed sandwiches, unique salads and wraps to add a little variety.  Don’t have the energy to make it off the couch?  Call for delivery and Raja’s will bring melted cheese goodness to your door.

  1. Stonebaked Pizza Co.

Stonebaked Pizza Co. might be located in a shopping centre, but don’t let that scare you away from some of the best pizza in town.  This pizzeria consistently slings high-quality pizza with a side of excellent service.  Next time you’re shopping at Highcross Shopping Centre it’s well worth a visit.

  1. Pizza Palace

If you go expecting a palace, you’ll be sorely disappointed, but if you go expecting good pizza, you definitely won’t be.  Pizza Palace is great for a delivery or takeaway via Hungry House.  They offer a large list of pizzas to choose from, along with wraps and sandwiches for those not as keen on cuisine from the boot.  They also deliver alcohol, which means they will always have a special place in my heart!

  1. Pizza Express

Everyone knows Pizza Express, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve to be on this list.  Who doesn’t love to be wowed by pizza made the old-fashioned way?  And what is that, exactly?  Well, by wearing a striped shirt, a big moustache, and tossing dough high above your head, of course!  (Disclaimer: This may not be the old-fashioned way, but I still love it).

  1. Peter Pizzeria

This place is brilliant.  Real wood-fire ovens and a hip, vintage atmosphere make mind and body feel right at home.  Peter’s fantastic, fresh ingredients and Italian-style, chewy dough elicit one Mamma mia! after another, and their wine selection isn’t bad either.  You can’t go full Italian without a bottle of red, right?

Pizza may well be my go-to favourite food?  It is this week anyway.  I’ve spent a good portion of my adult life appreciating it and learning how to cook it, possibly to exorcise the memories of growing up with Findus French bread pizza in the 80s…   A simple, classic pizza, whether meaty (for them) or vegetarian for me is just a thing of beauty, the Italian way is most certainly of the school is less-is-more; quality ingredients, a good thin pizza crust and a very hot oven.  However, or wherever you eat it, enjoy.
