Friday Lush: Bourbon Sour

Fancy a drink? Yeah, me too.

I’m mixing one of these bad boys before I go out tonight, possibly before I even take my coat off getting through the door from work? It is Friday, after all.

I created this originally for our blog at work, I love my job on days when I’m tasked to create and write about cocktails. Good times.  The original post is here, it features some rather nice cocktails, even if I do say so myself.


I’ve never been a big bourbon drinker but I have been partaking more so of late.  I’m loving Bulleit at the moment, introduced to me by a friend who thought my own choice to be too mainstream, I’m no bourbon expert (willing student mind) and he does know his way around a bottle of bourbon, through a bottle of bourbon might be more apt actually.  Bulleit is no small batch, craft brew of course, it’s available in all the big supermercados, but it’s super smooth, with a lazy, easy air of rock and roll and the bad boy about it, which is, of course, incredibly appealing.  And the bottle’s cool. Which definitely makes it taste better, right? Right.

Bourbon Sour

Serves 1
Prep time 5 minutes
Meal type Beverage

What you will need

  • Double measure bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon each of lemon and orange juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 Slice orange (to garnish)
  • crushed ice
  • cocktail shaker
  • whisky tumbler


Step 1 Fill a whisky tumbler with crushed ice
Step 2 Add all the ingredients (bar the crushed ice) into a cocktail shaker. Shake hard
Step 3 Strain over the ice, garnish with orange
Step 4 Drink. Make another. And then another.
